Special to the DailyIf you can find Jerome the gnome, you might just win tickets to the Vail International Dance Festival and dinner for two.

VAIL Move over Baryshnikov and make way for Jerome Gnome of the Dance. The Vail International Dance Festival and KZYR the Zephyr will unveil the next great dance icon of the modern era Tuesday as Jerome the Gnome bursts onto the scene, just in time for the 2005 Vail International Dance Festival. The 8-inch tall, pink tutu-clad garden gnome will hold the key to free dinners and dance festival tickets for those lucky enough to track down his whereabouts throughout the course of the contest.I first saw Jerome perform in Paris, said the festivals Producing Artistic Director Katherine Kersten. And I knew immediately that he was destined for greatness. His pointy little shoes hardly touched the floor and his hat and beard only added to the grace and elegance of the presentation.Jerome will be waltzing his way through six Vail Valley businesses beginning Tuesday. However, as gnomes are inherently shy, contest participants will need to search high and low for his daily hiding place. Jerome will be on the loose from Tuesday through Friday and then again Aug. 2-3.To aid in this search and rescue operation, KZYR will provide clues to Jeromes whereabouts each morning from 8 a.m.-noon. The first person to stumble upon the gnomes hideout and ask the proprietor to produce the gnome will win two reserved seats for a designated Vail International Dance Festival performance along with dinner for two at Terra Bistro, for all Ford Amphitheater performances or Rocks Modern Grill for the Aug. 3 Vilar Center show. Gnomes are incredibly curious folk, said Jerome, so theres no telling where I might show up each day. Im excited to finally be recognized for my dance prowess and look forward to sharing the spotlight with all the other great artists that are coming for the festival. The 2005 Vail International Dance Festival is scheduled from Saturday through Aug. 7, with performances at both the Ford Amphitheater and the Vilar Center for the Arts in Beaver Creek.Tickets for all performances of the 2005 Vail International Dance Festival are currently on sale and are priced from $17 to $85.
