Golden: Men sent to prison in human smuggling case
GOLDEN, Colorado ” Two men who have each been deported three times were each sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to human smuggling.
Exal Sanchez-Figueroa and Luis Contreras-Ferreira, both 25, each pleaded guilty to the charge on March 6 and were sentenced Monday. They could have faced up to 12 years in prison.
The Jefferson County district attorney’s office says that in November, troopers stopped a van Contreras-Ferreira was driving on Interstate 70 for weaving in Wheat Ridge. Prosecutors say troopers found 15 undocumented foreign nationals in the van, which was headed to Kansas.
