EDWARDS ” Last month, the Faessler family, along with their foundation and their resorts, hosted the eighth annual Scramble Against Cancer at the Sonnenalp Golf Club in Edwards.

Also sponsoring the fundraising golf tournament was Bob McNichols, owner and developer of One Willow Bridge Road, the development nearing completion in Vail.

Walking away the first place title was the team of Jim King, John Heilman, Craig Struve and Geof Kirsch, who won a Lake Tahoe vacation donated by Ross Bowker of East-West Partners.

Other than golf ” and for me, more importantly ” is the amazing buffet spread prepared by chef Adam Roustom and his Sonnenalp culinary staff. The Don Watson Band entertained the crowd throughout the celebratory dinner.

Prize drawings included 18-karat pave diamond Golden Bear earrings and a stay in the presidential suite of the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver.

The event always raises a truly amazing amount of money. This year, over $118,000 was raised by the generous and dependable supporters of the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. Over the past eight years, just shy of $1 million has been raised.

Next year will be the really big celebration everyone will want to be a part of.

Helping make the day a success were George Kahrhoff, Hollie Johnson and Paul McGinley of the Sonnenalp Management staff; Michele Davis, executive director of the Sonnenalp Foundation; and members of the board of trustees of the Foundation, Rosana Faessler, Deb Bowker, Sally Johnston and Sally Rose.

For more information regarding the Sonnenalp Foundation or the Scramble Against Cancer, call Michele Davis at 479-5534.
