Good fit in Vail

The crew of and the Skier Enhancement Center at the top of Chair 4 deserve some kudos and recognition for a job well done.

The 2009 ski-boot testing for Masterfit University and the manufacturers who sponsored the event showed confidence and leadership in the ski industry. By sponsoring a fantastic event that garnered valuable information for bootfitters across the country, the upcoming fall Masterfit University seminar series will once again be poised as the industry leader in training the most competent boot fitters in the country.

To trust a bunch of boot fitters and techno weenies from all over the country to come to Vail and play with (evaluate) all the new boots for the coming 2010 season is no small feat.

The logistics of lining up sponsors such as Tecnica, Rossignol, Salomon, Nordica, Head, Dalbello, Lange, Fischer, Atomic and Daleboot to pony up boots for a mass-testing season is tedious. But you pulled it off with great enthusiasm. Thanks for treating us to a few days of great weather, great snow conditions and great hospitality. Special mention and thanks to Greg Hoffman and the staff of for providing technical and logistical support. Also thanks to Mark Elling, author of “The All Mountain Skier,” from Bend, Ore., for his organizational skills and his relentless pursuit of the perfect boot fit.

Vail Resorts and Vail Sports provided the ideal testing grounds to really give the new products a workout on spring snow and sun-baked Back Bowls. A great time had by all, I look forward to doing it again for next season’s new product lines. The red snow and dust storms only added to the experience of testing equipment under diverse conditions. Mother Nature, what a gal!
