GOP candidate for Vail’s U.S. representative suspends campaign

FIRESTONE, Colorado – Bob Brancato, a Republican candidate running to unseat U.S. Rep. Jared Polis in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District, has suspended his campaign, it was announced Tuesday.

Brancato said in an e-mail that “liberal media outlets” plan to share personal information about his family that will jeoparidize their privacy and safety.

“While we understand that when you become a public figure your past is ‘put out’ for all to see, the line that is being crossed cannot be re-drawn in this case,” Brancato wrote.

Stephen Bailey, of Niwot, is also running for the Republican nomination.

The district includes Eagle County as well as Boulder, northwest Denver suburbs and Clear Creek, Gilpin, Grand, and Summit counties.
