GOP candidate says he’s on his own in Grand Junction race

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” The Republican challenging Democratic incumbent John Salazar in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District says he isn’t getting any help from the state party.

Delta County Commissioner Wayne Wolf rankled Republican Party leaders when he attempted to run for the nomination to replace GOP Sen. Wayne Allard, who’s retiring. That would have forced a primary against Bob Schaffer as Republicans fight to hang on to the seat.

Wolf said party leaders urged him to challenge Salazar instead, but no one has worked with him since.

Party chairman Dick Wadhams says Republicans support Wolf’s candidacy. But he says he also told Wolf that the party is focused on defending incumbents.

Wadhams is managing Schaffer’s Senate campaign against Demoract Mark Udall.
