GOP spouse to address High Country Women
Senate campaigns are family affairs, with candidate’s spouses beating the bushes for votes as hard as the candidates themselves.Dr. Maureen Schaffer will hit the stump Thursday in Eagle County, on behalf of husband Bob, at a High Country Women’s luncheon. Bob is running against Peter Coors for the Republican spot in this November’s U.S. Senate race. The Schaffer/Coors winner will face the winner of the race between Democrats Mike Miles and Ken Salazar.Maureen Schaffer is an electrical engineer. She earned a Ph.D. from Colorado State University. She done research in computer visioning, optical memories, and error detection and correction in microelectronic circuits.She has been active in education reform since 1992 and was instrumental in opening Poudre School District’s first Core Knowledge school, Washington Core Knowledge, in the Ft. Collins area. She lobbied for passage of Colorado’s Charter Schools Act in 1993 and was one of the authors of the charter for Liberty Common School, the first charter school in Fort Collins.Maureen Schaffer is a member of the LCS Building Corporation Board, a nonprofit organization, and the Core Knowledge Charter School Foundation Board.
