GOP’s Paul, Romney plan Colorado stops

DENVER, Colorado ” Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has scheduled campaign stops in Colorado Springs and Denver for Friday.

Paul, a congressman from Texas, has been polling in the single digits, well behind frontrunners John McCain and Mitt Romney.

He plans to meet with voters and hold a news conference in Colorado Springs before heading to Denver for another press conference and a rally.



Romney also plans to make a campaign stop in Denver on Friday ahead of Colorado’s presidential caucuses next week.

Romney and McCain are locked in a battle for the GOP nomination. McCain leads in the early delegate count with 83 to Romney’s 59. It takes nearly 1,200 to win the nomination.



Romney’s visit caps a busy political week for Colorado. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama visited on Wednesday, as did former President Clinton, husband of Senator Hillary Clinton, who is battling Obama for the nomination.

President Bush came to Colorado on Thursday to raise money for GOP Senate candidate Bob Schaffer.

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul also plans to be in Colorado on Friday.
