Gordon Stuart McKeeta, 79, of Vail, passed away on March 18.

He was born in Chicago on Dec. 15, 1930 to Helen and Nicholas McKeeta. After he graduated from Crane Technical High School in 1949, he attended Wright Junior College, where he received his associates degree in architecture.

In 1952, he was accepted into the United States Naval Air Cadet Program in Pensacola, Fla. He received his wings in 1953 and served his country flying P2Vs during the Korean Conflict. He continued to serve in the Navy Reserves until his retirement in 1978 at the rank of commander.



After active duty, Gordon moved to Boulder, where he continued his education and received a business degree in accounting from the University of Colorado. For over 30 years, Gordon owned and operated CustomArt Industries, specializing in fiberglass and resin manufacturing.

An avid skier, Gordon taught skiing at Vail from 1989-2003. In 2004, Gordon and his wife, Kathleen, moved into the house that Gordon designed and built in Vail.



Gordon will be remembered as a kind, caring and multi-talented man with an infectious sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kathleen McKeeta; daughter Kathy; son-in-law William Probeck; grandchildren Kaelin and Erick Probeck, of Conifer, Colo.; sister Loretta Kobus Sage, of Strongsville, Ohio; nephew Craig Louden, of Northridge, Calif.; sister-in-law Lorna Mikita, of Des Plaines, Ill.; niece Lisa Mikita, of Elgin, Ill.; mother-in-law Marguerite Kramer, of Vail; brother and sister-in-law Kenyon and Ina Rae Kramer, of Kensington, Md.; and nieces Lynda Kramer, of Pasadena, Calif., and niece Nicole Mitchell, of Baltimore, Md.

A graveside service will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, CO 80235, on April 26 at 11:15 a.m. at staging Area “C.” Immediately following the service will be a luncheon at Holy Name Catholic Church, 3290 West Milan Avenue, Sheridan, CO 80110.



On April 28, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the family will host an open house celebrating Gordon’s life and art at 1808 Alpine Drive, Vail, CO 81657. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a charitable donation in Gordon’s name to a charity of your choice or Vail’s Veterans Foundation.
