Government Tracker: Avon franchise agreement too speculative for Comcast
Board: Avon Town Council, Tuesday, Oct. 28 regular meeting.
Present: Council members Buz Reynolds, Matt Gennett, Jennie Fancher, Rich Carroll, Chris Evans, Dave Dantas and Jake Wolf.
The issue: Comcast franchise agreement, second reading
Who they talked to: Andy Davis, director of regulatory and government affairs at Comcast in Western Colorado
What they talked about: Davis said the franchise agreement document speculates on a lot of different services, the notion of franchise fees on Internet is very speculative, and that speculating on what a town would have the authority to regulate is too speculative for Comcast to agree on the document. Reynolds said he’d like to continue the motion and give the applicant more time to work out the glitches. Dantas said if council approves it and Comcast doesn’t like it, they will come back to the council and say what they want to change, but Comcast might just approve it as is.
How they voted: 5-2 in leaving the document as is, with Reynolds and Wolf opposing.
