Government tracker: Work starts at Homestake Reservoir next year

Present: Sara Fisher, Jon Stavney, Peter Runyon.

Issue: Meeting with water officials from Colorado Springs and Aurora.

What they talked about: The Front Range water officials laid out a plan to renovate the dam at Homestake Reservoir over the next few years.

The work includes replacing the asphalt liner at the reservoir’s dam and work to its intake and outlet structures. Work will start in 2011, and the reservoir will be almost completely drained. The reservoir is expected to be fully operational again in 2014.

Issue: Changes to the county’s ECO-Build grant program.

Who they talked to: County planner Adam Palmer.

What’s going to change: As of next year, the county’s subsidies will drop for homeowners who install photovoltaic solar panels. The current subsidy is up to $2 per watt of solar power, with a cap of $4,000. As of next year, that subsidy will be cut in half.
