Grand Junction murder suspect may face more charges
GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” Prosecutors say a man who killed a pregnant woman whose baby later died may face additional charges.
Police allege 39-year-old Lonnie Herrera shot Anna Maria Macias in the neck outside of a Grand Junction apartment complex. The 23-year-old woman was 81/2 months pregnant.
Herrera is being held on $2 million bond on suspicion of first-degree murder. Macias’ baby girl died Tuesday after relatives removed her from life support.
The Mesa County coroner’s office ruled the baby’s death a homicide.
Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger had said earlier that prosecutors would consider filing charges in connection with the baby’s death if it was ruled a homicide.
