Grand Junction schools look at 4-day week
GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” Grand Junction School District 51 officials are looking at ways to save money in the next school year, including switching to a four-day school week.
The shorter week would reduce the district’s $5.6 million transportation budget by reducing the number of bus runs.
Officials haven’t calculated the precise savings, or whether they would be offset by increases in other costs.
If the district eliminates one school day a week, the remaining four days would be longer so students that would get the same number of hours in class to meet state requirements.
School district officials are looking at their options in case the state cuts back on how much aid it provides.
