Grand Junction trial continues for man accused of killing son

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – A trial for a 53-year-old man accused of killing his teenage son while he slept is continuing, following testimony from his wife.

Authorities say Allen Grabe shot his 13-year-old son nine times at their home on September 2008. Grabe has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

So far, jurors have heard a 911 call from the boy’s mother in which she tells police her husband had shot their son. In the call, Allen Grabe is heard saying that his son was “going home to God.” Grabe’s defense attorney told jurors at the start of the trial this week that his client “was engulfed in an unreal reality.”

Grabe’s wife testified Thursday that she locked herself in her son’s closet after the shooting as she waited for police to arrive.
