Grass It Up brings funk-bluegrass to Eagle
Eagle, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado –Grass It Up is confused … and the Colorado Springs power trio is good at being confused.
Stuck smack dab between traditional and new grass, Grass It Up will bring its “almost funk bluegrass” to Eagle Town Park Thursday for the final installment of the free ShowDown Town concert series.
Grass It Up formed in 2005. The group is David Jeffrey on mandolin, guitar and vocals; Shannon Carr on guitar, banjo and vocals; and Jon Bross on upright bass and vocals. The group has released two full-length CDs and has performed for Fortune 500 companies and acoustic societies, and at luxury resorts, festivals and private events.
The trio regularly rolls out bluegrass renditions of songs by Cake, Jimi Hendrix, KC and the Sunshine Band, Pearl Jam and Willie Nelson, among others. The addition of rock and punk stylings comes from the band members’ own personal influences, with Bross growing up playing in funk bands, while Carr was versed in blues and rock ‘n’ roll.
“We’re playing to have fun and that means a dynamic repertoire for us,” Bross says. “We find that engaging our audience at every performance is vital in building the energy we’re after”.
There will be kids activities before the concert, which gets underway at 6:30 p.m.,
The 2009 American National Bank ShowDown Town, presented by the Town of Eagle, is a project of the Vail Valley Foundation. For additional information on the free concert series, visit http://www.showdowntownfreeconcerts.com or http://www.vvf.org.
