Group wants to fund Minturn projects

Daily Staff Report

MINTURN – Have a great idea for Minturn but lack the funds to do it? The Minturn Community Fund wants to hear from you.The nonprofit group, which raises funds through the Live in Minturn fall concert series, has several thousands of dollars in money earmarked for such efforts. “Basically what we are looking to do is to issue grants towards projects, either recreation- or open space-oriented,” said Andy Kaufman, co-owner of the Minturn Saloon. The fall concert series is held at the Minturn Saloon and Kaufman sits on the community fund’s board. While the group wants to support recreation or open space projects in particular, they’ve allowed themselves so flexibility, too.”Any really good thing will be considered, too,” Kaufman said. In years past, the fund was dedicated to help specific groups or organizations. Proceeds from the concerts have helped the American Red Cross, the town’s senior citizens and the Minturn Fire Department, before it joined the Eagle River Fire Protection District. Now the group wants to open the funds up to the entire community. An example of one group that would meet the grant criteria is the citizens’ group that has formed to make improvements to the town’s La Playuela Park, Kaufman said.”We just want people to know within the Minturn community that if they have ideas, there might be a way to get it done,” he said. “And if money is the problem, perhaps we can help.”===============================================Minturn Community Fund grants• Call Andy Kaufman, co-owner of the Minturn Saloon, at 827-5945 to get an application.• Grants will be given to projects that benefit Minturn.• Maximum grant is $20,000• Application deadline is Feb. 15================================================Vail, Colorado
