Groups say lynx habitat should include Colorado
HELENA, Montana ” Some environmental groups are demanding the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service expand its designation of critical habitat for the Canada lynx.
The groups represented by the Western Environmental Law Center say the federal agency’s designation covers too little of Montana, and should include northeastern Washington and the southern Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The groups have sent the Interior Department 60 days notice of intent to sue if the habitat designation is not revised.
The designation, announced in February, reflects about a twentyfold increase in the lynx habitat declared during the Bush administration.
Fish and Wildlife spokeswoman Diane Katzenberger in Denver says the agency does not comment on pending litigation.
