Guilty plea in Eagle-Vail assisted suicide
Eagle, CO Colorado
EAGLE “-A 19-year-old man the Sheriff’s Office says was involved in an assisted suicide in Eagle-Vail, Colorado in September pleaded guilty to manslaughter Friday and will face sentencing in about six weeks.
Jacob Weiss allegedly handed his roommate ” whom the Sheriff’s Office has not identified ” a loaded shotgun on Sept. 15 and the roommate shot and killed himself shortly after, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Reports say the two men were drinking and talking about suicide that night in the Mountain Stream Apartments in Eagle-Vail.
Weiss was arrested and charged with manslaughter (aiding suicide), reckless endangerment and prohibited use of a firearm.
The last two charges were dismissed Friday and Weiss will be sentenced April 8 for the manslaughter charge.
Court records show that Friday’s ruling has an agreement for a four-year deferred sentence and Weiss was ordered to serve probation for that term. Under a deferred sentence, Weiss wouldn’t serve any jail time and the charge against him could be cleared if he stays out of trouble for four years.
However, the conditions of Friday’s ruling could change at the April sentencing hearing, according to the District Attorney’s office.
