Gun shop set to open in Eagle
Vail, CO, Colorado
EAGLE ” Jim Kelly was about six years old when he discovered the passion that’s fueling his new business in Eagle.
Kelly, a Vail Valley resident since 1989, was in elementary school when he opened a drawer and found a German Mauser, the gun his father brought home from World War II. It was the first gun he ever touched. His love for guns only grew from there and has recently led to Kelly’s newest endeavor, a gun shop.
Bogart’s Gun Shop, located at 108 W. Second Street in Eagle, and named after Kelly’s beloved Great Dane, Bogart, is set to open Nov. 1.
Previously a contractor and a martial arts instructor, Kelly says he thinks there is a need in the valley for a good quality gun shop.
Kelly says Wal-Mart and Sports Authority only sell long guns ” rifles and shotguns. No store in the valley sells handguns. With concealed carry permit applications up 100 percent as of July 2008 against all of 2007, Kelly saw an opportunity for a shop that sells handguns.
“I want to provide this service for the local people,” Kelly said.
Bogart’s gun shop will carry handguns, long guns, ammunition, holsters, apparel, targets and other merchandise. Consignments will also be accepted.
Kelly is a certified armorer for Glock and Sig Sauer, and can completely rebuild and service those models. He is also a Kimber master dealer, so locals no longer have to drive to Denver to get good prices on these guns, he said. Kelly buys them directly from the manufacturer.
“I am excited. Very excited. I can’t wait. I am hoping that locals will support me. I am taking a huge chance doing this financially and emotionally. But I believe in it,” said Kelly.
Bogart’s Gun Shop will celebrate its grand opening Nov. 1. Business hours are Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. The business phone number is 970-328-6002.
