Gunman shoots three at upstate New York cosmetics factory, then kills himself

NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. – A gunman shot three people Monday at a perfume and nail polish factory and then killed himself, police said.The shootings happened at the Verla International plant, where some 400 people are employed, police said.The victims, whose names were not released, were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, New Windsor Police Lt. R.S. Hovey said. All were in critical condition Monday afternoon, and Hovey said he believed they all were shot in the head.Police identified the gunman as Victor M. Piazza of Warwick. The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reported that Piazza, 55, was a former office employee at Verla who was fired about a year ago.At about 3:30 p.m., three hours after the shootings, police removed a body from the factory and placed it in a gray van.A call to the company was not answered Monday afternoon.New Windsor is about 55 miles north of New York City.Vail, Colorado
