This Fourth of July weekend, Squash Blossom in Vail Village will host a trunk show of new pieces by jewelry designer Gurhan, who is known for his work with 24-karat gold.

Squash Blossom has a long history with the designer and has one of the largest selections of his jewelry in the country. Gurhan made his last appearance at the store in March.

“It was 1997 when Gurhan had his first showing in Vail with us,” said Squash Blossom owner Patti Cogswell. “Gurhan’s superb craftsmanship, unique designs and boldness makes him a perfect fit as our premier jeweler.”

Gurhan’s pieces are bright, bold and inspired by the ancient. Each of his pieces is handmade in Turkey, where he personally trains each of his apprentices in the ancient techniques integral to his designs. Because of his dedication to authenticity, his apprentices have no prior training or experience in jewelry making. This frees his jewelry of the influence of modern design and technique.

Gurhan himself designs and prototypes each piece and then teaches his apprentices how to craft the designs. Much of Gurhan’s jewelry is one of a kind. His use of precious stones and museum-quality antiquities — including coins and mosaics — make it unable to be found anywhere else.
