Gwen Scola named Pooh Corner Preschool’s new director

Special to the Daily

MINTURN – Pooh Corner Preschool has announced that Gwen Scola will be its new director of the school effective immediately. An area resident since 1999, Scola recently acquired her Colorado Director’s Certification for an early childhood care facility and brings many years of local experience to the position. She has held the title of preschool teacher since July 2004, when she began her career at the Family Learning Center in Edwards, continuing on to The Children’s Garden of Learning in Vail, where she remained for eight years.

A Vermont native, Scola is a 1995 graduate of the University of Vermont in Burlington and has a strong background and passion for art. During the summer of 2012, she went back to Burlington for three months where she developed, marketed and instructed a summer art camp for children. The camp curriculum focused on a different art medium and skill every week with the purpose of dispelling the myth of perfection as it relates to creative perception. As director of Pooh Corner, she intends to bring a combination of early childhood learning styles to the planned curriculum and is inspired by both Reggio Amelia and Montessori philosophies for developmental growth. Enhanced overall preschool programming, a focus on our environment and natural surroundings, and teacher training are in store for the school’s improvement plans.

“Gwen has built a career that is committed to providing loving care and instruction to children in an equal opportunity environment,” said Melissa Decker, Pooh Corner Preschool board member. “We are fortunate to have someone with her passion for early childhood education.”
