EAGLE, Colorado – One new face will be seated among the Gypsum Town Council members at its next meeting on April 10.

Three incumbents were up for re-election on Tuesday, and only two were reinstated.

Beric Christiansen unseated incumbent Kyle Hall, and Gary Lebo and Tom Edwards were re-elected in Gypsum’s first mail-ballot-only election. Lebo and Edwards are now in their fourth consecutive terms. Hall served one term.

Out of the 657 ballots received, Lebo carried the most votes with 319, Edwards was second with 301 and Christiansen had 290.

“I appreciate the voters’ support,” Lebo said. “We’ll continue trying to move Gypsum forward and bring more business here.”

All the candidates touted new jobs and business as priorities for the town in weeks leading up to Election Day.

“I want to thank the voters for having confidence in me,” said Christiansen, who is a former CFO of Eddie Bauer and vice president with Northern Automotive and Payless Shoes. “I hope to help reduce foreclosures and get jobs here.”

Lebo is a real estate broker and owns Alpenglow Property Management. Edwards is a retired architect.

“I’ll try and do a good job still,” Edwards said. “I’m thrilled to be back on. The board has done good things in the past and hopefully we’ll do some more good things.”

Gypsum Town Clerk Danette Schlegel said that conducting the election by mail seemed to boost voter turnout, though the number was still fairly average.

“I don’t remember the exact number from the previous election but I think there might be about 200 more ballots in this election,” she said.

Most of the ballots were received by Monday.

“It went smoothly,” Schlegel said.

Rounding out the votes, Hall was fourth with 266. Jim Kinser had 255 votes. Ross Graves had 212 and Stan McElderry had 116.
