Gypsum firefighters put out field blaze
Gypsum, CO Colorado
GYPSUM, Colorado ” The Gypsum Fire Department stayed busy late Friday afternoon with a fire that broke out in an open field north of Dotsero, Colorado.
Fire Chief David Vroman said the fire broke out likely as a result of someone burning a ditch, which is a common practice, he said, and it got out of control.
“It jumped up and ran a little,” he said. “People have to be careful. It’s drier than they think.”
Vroman’s crew put out the fire, which occurred about five miles north of Dotsero and just before Sweetwater Creek, in about 20 minutes, he said. The fire damaged approximately 2/10 to 1/3 acre of property, he said.
Firefighters spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up the area.
