Gypsum: Juvenile accused of spray-painting gang graffiti
Vail CO, Colorado
GYPSUM, Colorado ” A juvenile was arrested on suspicion of spray-painting gang graffiti onto buildings and sidewalks, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Wednesday.
The juvenile was arrested on suspicion of three counts of defacing property on Schoolside Street, Holy Cross Village Apartments and at a park, the Sheriff’s Office said. The Sheriff’s Office did not say when the arrest took place.
“SUR13” and “SouthSide Criminals” were spray-painted onto the buildings and sidewalks, but the Sheriff’s Office did not say when and a spokeswoman did not immediately return a message requesting comment.
“Sur 13” is a symbol for a street gang known as “Sureno” or “Sureno Trece.” “Sureno” means “southerner” in Spanish. The graffiti had been reported several times in Edwards this year.
The juvenile’s guardian is currently out of state, so the juvenile was placed with Eagle County Health and Human Services.
The juvenile will be held by Health and Human Services until it finds a safe place and responsible guardian for the juvenile.
