Gypsum man accused of sex assault

GYPSUM, Colorado – The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Gypsum man on charges of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, a Class 4 felony, police said in a statement. The Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant Thursday for Omar Saucedo, 20, police said.
The Sheriff’s Office says it received a report May 8 of an unlawful sexual act between Saucedo, who was a volunteer track coach at the Eagle Valley High School, and a 15-year-old student. The sexual encounter between Saucedo and the student did not occur on school property, police said. Eagle Valley High School and the Eagle County School District were very cooperative though out the investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Saucedo was booked into the Eagle County Detention Facility on Friday. He will be held without bond until he appears before a judge on Monday morning.
“He cleared all the background checks that we run on all our volunteers,” said Mike Gass with the Eagle County School District. “Even a volunteer coach is a person in a position of trust, and that comes with high expectations and high accountability. … As soon as we were alerted to the situation, we alerted coaches and other school officials and we suspended his access to teams and campuses. … To our knowledge this is an isolated situation.”
