GYPSUM, Colorado ” Downvalley motorists can expect another season of roadwork on Cooley Mesa Road during 2008.

Eagle County started work this week on a $3.9 million project that will widen the road to four lanes in front of the airport. The airport entrance, which is now a loop, will be moved to align with Eldon Wilson Road. The move will leave more space for parking.

Airport employee parking will be shifted west to a piece of land recently purchasde by the county.

Delays on Cooley Mesa Road should be kept to a minimum, said Rick Ullom, Eagle County’s construction manager.

“Right now the goal is to keep two lanes open at all times. There’s going to be times when there will be 5-10 minute delays,” he said.

The work also includes construction of a bike lane along the road.
