Gyrotonic Vail hosts two body rolling workshops
EDWARDS – Gyrotonic Vail will host Kerry O’Brien, a neuromuscular therapist from Los Angeles, for two Yamuna Body Rolling workshops on Friday. The first workshop, “Save Your Shoulders & Neck,” will be from 10 to 11:45 a.m. followed by “Save Your Hips & Lower Back” from noon to 1:45 p.m. “We participate in a variety of sports here in the Vail Valley so I find it’s important to ‘roll out’ tight muscles to prevent injury and keep optimal range-of-motion in all areas of the body in order perform at one’s peak,” said Colleen Downard, studio owner and principal teacher at Gyrotonic Vail. “Rolling out on a foam roller or common ball is okay but this work (Yamuna Body Rolling) is so much more specific and goes really deep, like a good massage. I also love that the balls are so portable. They deflate and come with a small hand pump so I travel with them all the time.”Students are welcome to take one or both workshops and Yamuna balls will be for sale after the workshop. Yamuna Body Rolling combines core strengthening with the release of deep tissue massage. An empowering tool for self care, Yamuna Body Rolling re-educates muscles and stimulates bone, creating positive, permanent changes in the body using balls specially designed this practice.Students will walk away from these Yamuna workshop knowing different causes for discomfort in the areas focused on in the workshop; when to seek medical advice; how to safely work with the balls to address specific issues; simple lifestyle modifications that can be applied at home and at work to assure health of the spine; and, how to prevent costly treatments due to common mechanical and postural imbalances.O’Brien is neuromuscular therapist and member of NCTMB, American Massage Therapy Association and Pilates Method Alliance.
