GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” A company official has confirmed that “some Halliburton personnel reductions” have occurred at its facility in Grand Junction.

District manager Larry Kent said Thursday in a news release that the provider of services and products to the energy industry continues to “work hard to minimize personnel reductions” but that “it simply is not business as usual in the current economic environment.”

Kent said layoffs had taken place, but he declined to specify how many.

Some former Halliburton employees told Grand Junction media outlets that they were greeted by armed guards when they arrived for work Thursday, then taken to a meeting and told they were being let go.

A message left with a Halliburton public relations representative was not immediately returned.
