Hasan sign vandalized again
Eagle County CO, Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” A wooden campaign sign for Ali Hasan was spray-painted for the second time in the past few weeks.
The large, wooden sign on the intersection of Edwards Village Boulevard and U.S. Highway 6 for the Republican state representative candidate was spray-painted with the words “Daddy’s $$$” on the front and “It’s personal, Ali” on the back, according to Sheriff’s Office Deputy Griffin Wright.
The vandalism was reported early Sunday morning. The sign was similarly vandalized on the weekend of Oct. 10.
“It’s two separate incidents, but it seems to be targeted,” Griffin said. “I stopped by to talk to some business to see if there were any cameras that caught it, but unfortunately, there was no coverage on that corner.”
Penalty for the damage would be a felony charge because the sign, the largest amidst a sea of other campaign signs, cost $1,000, Griffin said.
Hasan, a Beaver Creek resident, said he doesn’t take the message as a threat and is trying to stay positive for the last couple weeks of his campaign.
“This is a very contested election from Obama and McCain to the county commissioners race,” Hasan said. “People emotionally just get too riled up. I refuse to think of it as any sort of hatred statement from the community. People here have taken good care of me.”
He might be attracting more attention because he is a first-time candidate and a Republican, he said.
The case is still under investigation, and anyone with information about the incident can call Eagle County Crime Stoppers at 970-328-7007.
