Heating assistance available in Eagle County
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado Residents having trouble paying their winter heating bill can get assistance from the Colorado Department of Human Services Low-income Energy Assistance Program, also known as LEAP.The program recently received an $8.1 million from the federal government. We know there are over 200,000 people in our state that meet our income requirements, so the need is out there. This increase in funding ensures that all eligible Coloradans can receive the gift of warmth, said Scott Barnette, LEAP Director. Families with children, individuals with special needs and senior citizens are among the most vulnerable to excessive temperatures, said Kathy Lyons, self-sufficiency manager for Eagle County Health & Human Services A home can receive only one subsidy, or the entire season. Factors such as income, the type of heat being used and number of people in the household are considered before an amount is awarded to an applicant. Applications may be picked up from any of three county office locations in Avon, Eagle and El Jebel. Forms are also available for downloading until April 30 from http://www.cdhs.state.co.us/leap.
