Heuga center to host depression seminar Saturday
The Heuga Center, in collaboration with Colorado Mountain Medical and the Shaw Regional Cancer Center, will host a seminar entitled “Coping with Depression in Chronic Disease”, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday at the Shaw Cancer Center in Edwards. The free seminar will address many ways to effectively cope with depression, including medical and non-medical strategies, stress management, exercise, and using local support networks and services. Supported by a grant from United Way of Eagle River Valley, this seminar is free of charge and geared toward those suffering from depression, pain, and chronic disease as well their family and friendsThe nonprofit Heuga Center, based in Edwards, is known for its national CAN DO Programs that try to teach people with multiple sclerosis how to manage their disease. Heuga Center President Brian Hutchinson says the depression seminar is a natural fit for the Center.”Depression is a topic we regularly address during our five-day CAN DO Programs,” Hutchinson says. “This is a perfect opportunity to share the knowledge of our expert staff and give back to the local community.”At the seminar, Hutchinson will discuss exercise as a way to cope with stress and depression. Dr. Jude Meyer, a Heuga Center staff member from Denver, will present an overview of psychological treatment and therapies.
