PAONIA ” Ahh, for the love of cherries.
Paonia Cherry Days festival is in its 61st year of celebrating the favorite summertime sweet-and-tart fruit. The festival now runs through the Fourth of July.
Family-friendly activities include arts and crafts, live music, a kids carnival, sangria sipping, the Cherry Pit Bicycle Extravaganza, Ute Trails Car Show, skateboard competition, bull riding, a 5K Run/Walk, an art gallery walk, an ice cream social, community picnics and Fourth of July parade and fireworks.
Downtown Day is July 3, featuring a gallery walk, book sale, free community barbecue with live music and a pie-eating contest, and a bicycle decorating contest and loop ride.
Paonia is a mountain town of about 1,500 residents, located in the West Elks Mountains in the North Fork Valley (about halfway from Aspen and Telluride).
