Vail, CO Colorado

EAGLE – The Eagle County Commissioners will get an update on the lated Hidden Gems wilderness proposal at 1 p.m., Tuesday. The session is set for the Eagle County room at the county administration building.

At the session, the commissioners will get an overview of the latest revisions to the wilderness proposal from Steve Smith of the Wilderness Society. Since it’s a work session and not a public hearing, the commissioners may or may not take questions or comments from the public.

After nearly four years of work, backers of the plan have submitted a plan to eliminate motorized access to nearly 250,000 acres of public land in Eagle and Summit counties. The proposal has been sent to U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, who represents Eagle and Summit counties in Congress. Polis has been asked to sponsor a bill to create the new wilderness zones.
