High school raises money for AIDS Awareness

EAGLE – Eagle Valley High School’s Link Crew is hosting a fundraiser to raise money for AIDS Awareness Foundation and other non-profit groups. The fundraiser, which will run into December, will include many of the high school’s clubs and sports teams, who will decorate and then auction off holiday wreathes. The wreaths may be on display at Costco, Columbine Market and the Eagle City Market. Link Crew is a club that hooks up young high school student with older student mentors. EAGLE COUNTY – Hundreds of items from restaurant gift certificates and movie tickets to bicycles and underwear are on the virtual action block at http://www.kidbid.org. Hoping the raise $50,000 for after-school programs in Eagle County, the Youth Foundation is calling for everyone to come bid on their favorite items for a worthy cause. VAIL – The Vail Recreation District’s Youth Services Department is now offering recreational learning opportunities through its Discovery Bunch and expanded Pre-School Sports programs throughout the 2006-07 school year.Discovery Bunch: For ages 3-5, the weekly Discovery Bunch program facilitates interactive fun including listening to stories, creating art projects, singing songs and discovering new experiences in a small, structured setting. A book is read each week and all activities are based on the book’s theme. Children should be comfortable in a group environment and able to use the bathroom with minimal assistance. Participants may sign up for a single day session or monthly session. Single day sessions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The program takes place from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year. Cost is $20 per day or $68 for four weeks. Pre-School Sports: For ages 4-5, this program provides children with an opportunity to acquire activity skills in a playful setting. On Thursdays, children will enjoy gymnastics at the Vail Gymnastics Center and on Wednesdays, they will ice skate at Dobson Ice Arena or do other sports such as volleyball, sledding and soccer. Participants may sign up for a single day session or monthly session. Single day sessions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The program takes place from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year. Costs for Thursday gymnastics are $25 per day or $88 for four weeks. Wednesday ice skating costs $20 per day or $68 for four weeks. The cost for children who participate in both Discovery Bunch and Pre-School Sports is $140 for four weeks of Thursday gymnastics or $120 for four weeks of Wednesday ice skating.For more information, contact the Vail Rec District’s Youth Services Department at 479-2292.
