Highway work begins between Minturn and Leadville

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor United Companies will begin a highway chip-seal project on U.S. Highway 24 between Minturn and Leadville on Monday. The work zone begins just south of Minturn at mile point 147.18 and continues south towards Leadville, ending at mile point 169. The work was contracted to United Companies for $949,450.
Through Aug. 30, the following is the anticipated schedule and traffic impacts:
Aug. 16-23: Highway chip seal operation. Drivers are urged to travel slowly through newly resurfaced section and maintain a safe following distance to avoid loose chips on windshields.
Aug. 24-27: Application of fog coat (sealant for newly resurfaced pavement).
Aug. 30: Final striping
Motorists in both directions will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic directed with a pilot car. Delays of up to 20 minutes should be expected during daylight hours Monday through Friday.
