Hike, Wine and Dine event raises money for Jack’s Place
BEAVER CREEK — There were strong emotions amongst the 350 participants who came out to Hike, Wine and Dine on Sunday at Beaver Creek Resort to support Jack’s Place, a caring house at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center.
Surely, there were thoughts of loved ones affected by cancer. Most feelings that day were sunny and bright in keeping with the beautiful fall day. The weather was truly miraculous, with looming clouds relenting to sunny skies. Aspen groves were a mix of gold and yellow, but were still mostly green.
The vent’s organizer Sue Franciose summed it up in thanking the event’s sponsors, hikers, volunteers and chefs.
“The weather didn’t stop the Hike, Wine and Dine from being a raging success this past Sunday,” she said. “Even though it sprinkled rain at registration, we still hosted over 350 folks to support Jack’s Place and the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. Breakfast burritos from Park Hyatt’s 8100 Mountainside Bar & Grill, mimosas and coffee welcomed those that came. Hikers started the four-mile family trail as the sky opened up, and they appreciated blue skies for the entire event.”
Then there were the trailside delicacies. The hikers enjoyed treats including mountain rustic chili, from The Osprey’s David Sanchez; fried chicken and red-skin potato salad, from Splendido’s David Walford; scallops, oxtail marmalade and potato puree, from Grouse Mountain Grill’s Dave Gutowski; and smoked trout mousse, cucumber canape and prosciutto chips, from The Metropolitan’s Steve Hampton.
Hikers finished at the base with CBAR’s Jay McCarthy serving lobster pot pies and wine and Rimini’s Michele Huyke serving yogurt, Palisade peaches and lavender honey.
“Once you do this event, you will always do it,” hiker Cathy Karsh said.
