Hiker dies in fall at Rocky Mountain National Park

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colorado ” A 66-year-old hiker from Fort Collins is dead after a fall in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Larimer County Deputy Coroner Greg Fairman says Richard Frisbie had multiple injuries, including a broken neck.

Witnesses say Frisbie fell at least 500 feet on a steep slope covered with snow above Emerald Lake Saturday afternoon. He was wearing crampons and a helmet.

Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson says witnesses who reached him soon after the fall reported he had suffered massive trauma and had no pulse. Park rangers arrived about two hours later and then removed his body.

The fall happened about 2.5 miles from the Bear Lake Trailhead.
