Hits & Misses: Great election, but where were the voters?

Vail Daily Editorial BoardVail CO, Colorado

Send your hit or miss to Opinion Editor Tamara Miller at tmiller@vaildaily.com.Hit: To everyone who cast ballots in Tuesdays election. Thanks for taking your civic responsibility seriously. Miss: To the some-70 percent of you who didnt bother to vote in the election. Theres no excuse for your lack of participation. For every race but Vails, voters were sent ballots that could have been returned by mail. Early voting for Vails council race began in mid-October. Dont bother to complain if you dont like the decisions your elected officials make next year.Hit: To all the candidates who ran for office this November. For the election winners, we wish you the best of luck. No amount of glory or stipend will be able to compensate for the work that lies ahead. For those who didnt make the cut, your participation gave voters some of the best options weve had in years for a town council or a school board race. We hope you continue your community involvement in other ways. Hit: To the incumbents who wont be returning to their seats, either because they lost their re-election bid, chose not to run again or were term-limited from running again. Thanks for your contributions.Hit: To the people who packed Eagle Town Hall Thursday for a no-public-input-allowed information session about the proposed Eagle River Station development. It’s unlikely anyone left the session with a different opinion of the project, but this is a big deal for Eagle, and public participation is going to be crucial.Hit: To the Vilar Performing Arts Center for bringing in the Broadway musical “The Producers” to Beaver Creek this coming Monday. A crew of 47 people will work nearly 20 hours unloading trucks, putting together the set, and loading everything back up after the show. The opportunity to see one of the most popular Broadway shows of all time in an intimate venue like the Vilar Center is outstanding.
