Hoedown benefits scholarships, kayak camps in Vail Valley

VAIL VALLEY, Colorado –Proceeds from this year’s ninth annual East West Hoedown fundraiser will benefit the Vail-based nonprofit First Descents as well as HERO scholarships at the Vail-Eagle Valley Campus of Colorado Mountain College.

The Western-themed party kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday, at the Eagle River Center at the Eagle County Fairgrounds. The event raises funds for different worthy organizations each year.

First Descents provides whitewater kayaking and other outdoor adventures for young adults with cancer. The HERO, or Higher Education Resources and Opportunities, scholarship fund provides support for Eagle County students to attend Colorado Mountain College, including graduating high school students and adult learners.

Hoedown festivities will include a catered barbecue dinner, a Western costume contest, more than 100 silent auction items, rides on a mechanical bull, kids’ bounce castle and music by the Western band Laughing Bones.
