VAIL, Colorado ” At the Vail Cascade this holiday season it’s not the 12 days of Christmas, but 14 days of family activities and festivities that make up the resort’s annual Cascade Christmas celebration. The free series of holiday activities kicks off at the Cascade on Dec. 19 and runs through Jan. 1, 2009.

Reindeer headline the two weeks of activities as kids and families will be able to take sleigh rides around the Cascade courtyard pulled by Santa’s helpers. The reindeer will make a brief appearance at the Cascade pre- and post-Christmas on Dec. 20 and Dec. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Kids of all ages can enjoy a unique line-up of activities including cookie decorating, construction of gingerbread houses, as well as stocking and ornament decorating. Every night is movie night featuring children’s holiday favorites like “Home Alone,” “The Santa Clause” and “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” from 7 to 9 p.m. Special children’s holiday amenities also will be delivered to guest rooms on select nights during the holiday celebration. To capture the festivities, the Vail Cascade will offer complimentary family portraits throughout the week.

Adults also can get into the holiday spirit with food and wine tastings during apres ski on Sundays. Chef Anthony Mazza will be serving up samples from the new Atwater on Gore Creek in the Fireside Lounge. Complimentary wine also will be served.

To ring in the New Year, the Cascade also will offer a children’s celebration on Dec. 31 from 8 to 9 p.m. Snacks, party favors and noise makers will allow kids to herald the arrival of 2009.
