Home destroyed by fire near Silt
SILT, Colorado – Authorities are calling a house that was consumed by fire, just south of Silt on Wednesday, a total loss.
Garfield County Emergency Communications Center responded to a house fire on County Road 346, south of Silt, shortly after noon Wednesday.
According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, motorists driving along County Road 346 called and reported black smoke and windows breaking in a single family modular dwelling.
Garfield County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Burning Mountains Fire Protection District firefighters arrived and began extinguishing the flames.
More than 20 firefighters battled the blaze for a little more than an hour to save roughly half of the structure. The residence is considered a total loss due to excessive smoke and other related damages. There were no injuries, and a Victim Specialist from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office is helping the family of two find temporary housing.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Other responding agencies and assets included an engine from the Glenwood Springs Fire Department, two water tenders from the Rifle Fire Department, and one West Care ambulance. The Colorado State Patrol also responded to the incident.
