Home of the Week: John And Diane Milligan
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado In Residence is a weekly feature designed to spotlight homes in Eagle County. Whether theyre extravagant masterpieces or intimate cabins, these are homes worth noticing. We talk to the owners about their domiciles and what makes them special. To nominate your home or a friends contact Kathy Filgo at email@example.com. It was peace and quiet that Milligans were looking for when they moved from Vail to Lake Creek, and they found it! They have a completely tranquil environment in which to enjoy their incredible views that span from the New York range to the Red & White Mountains.
Our style is casual mountain comfort. The house itself is subtle; it comfortably settles into the hillside and blends with the natural elements. Inside we have wood floors and beams and nifty niches for artwork with windows strategically located to bring the incredible outdoors inside.
We lived in Vail until 1996 and decided to look for something less busy, less noisy. We wanted a quiet retreat, a more rural area. And while Edwards has changed from a sleepy little rest stop into the action center of the county, Lake Creek hasnt thats why we love it here. Its tranquil and secluded but were only 5 minutes away from the action. And its no problem to run into town for a quart of milk.
Im sure my wife would say the FiveStar gas range. Its the kind that is used in restaurants and Im sure if our furnace went down we could heat the whole house with it!
I think it takes most people a while for the tranquil nature of the neighborhood to really sink in to actually hear the quiet; you can hear the sounds of the creek rushing through and you dont hear the drone of the expressway.
We love our extensive outdoor living space and its another wonderful way to enjoy the views. I think we would add heating to our patio so we can spend even more time outdoors.
Intimate dinner parties for six or eight friends are what we enjoy the most. Everyone gathers in the kitchen for appetizers and then we have a lingering dinner filled with great conversation at our large dining room table. But our home is large enough to comfortably accommodate big groups too. We are involved with the Mountain Rescue Group and host the annual get-together with 45 or more.
I think the quiet and tranquil setting that Lake Creek has is unique and thats enhanced by everyone having so much space around them. We have this total sense of privacy yet were so centrally situated in the county we can easily take advantage of all of the amenities and activities everywhere.
