Home Rule commission to meet Thursday
EAGLE ” The Eagle County Home Rule Charter Commission Thursday will get a look at how home rule works in other counties.
The meeting will start at 3 p.m. in the Eagle County Room ” the big meeting room ” at the Eagle County Administration Building, 500 Broadway in Eagle. The meeting should take two hours or so.
The commission, which was formed by voters in November to look into reforming Eagle County’s government, will hear presentations from Pitkin and Weld County officials. Those two counties are the only two in the state that have adopted home rule charters.
Scheduled to speak are Weld County Attorney Bruce Barker, Pitkin County Treasurer Tom Oken and Pitkin County Manager Hillary Smith.
In addition, Summit County Attorney Jeff Huntley will talk about that county’s experience with a home rule charter. Summit County voters formed a charter commission in 1996, then in 1997 rejected the charter that group created.
The Thursday meeting is open to the public. For more information, call 328-8685.
