Texas gentlemen Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen join forces for this up-close-and-personal concert.
Just two old friends swapping songs on acoustic guitars like they used to do on Keen’s front porch in College Station, Texas, when they co-wrote “The Front Porch Song,” which both artists later recorded on their respective debut albums.
Since then, they’ve recorded nearly 30 albums between their two careers. Lovett has won four Grammy Awards while both he and Keen have been inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame. This dynamic duo will perform acoustic, stripped-down versions of their most well-known songs and share the humorous and heartwarming stories behind them.
About Lyle Lovett
As singer, composer and actor, Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums over three decades. Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences. Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award and was named Texas State Musician.
About Robert Earl
Keen remains as committed to and inspired by his muse as ever. And as for accruing recognition, well, he’s done alright on that front, too; from his humble beginnings on the Texas folk scene, he’s blazed a peer, critic and fan-lauded trail that’s earned him living-legend (not to mention pioneer) status in the Americana music world.
Keen has had the honor of working with music legends Dave Matthews, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Eric Church and Gary Clark Jr. among others. He was inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012.
Lovett has played many times at the Vilar Center, four times to be exact in 2009, 2014, 2015 and 2016, always to sold-out crowds. He is truly a house favorite and one the Vilar Center is especially excited to have back this year as it celebrates its 20th anniversary.
