House OKs naming I-70 after Ford

VAIL ” The Colorado House of Representatives Friday unanimously passed a measure renaming the Eagle County stretch of I-70 after former president and valley resident Gerald Ford.

The bill, Eagle County Representative Dan Gibbs, D-Silverthorne, renames a portion of the freeway from the top of Vail Pass to Dotsero the President Gerald Ford Memorial Highway.

Ford, who died Dec. 26, is crediting with luring skiers to Vail with his trips to the resort while a U.S. congressman and later as president. Ford was active in golf, skiing and the arts in the valley and had still owned a home in Beaver Creek when he died.



The resolution now heads to the Senate.
