How to be fully alive!

Gary Wingo

“The Glory of God is ‘man’ fully alive.” Do you believe this? As I was reading John Eldredge’s book, Waking The Dead, this quote reached out and grabbed me by the throat. Lots of questions pounded their way through my thick skull: “Was St. Irenaeus kidding? God wants me to live here on earth fully alive? With life being so hard sometimes, how is this possible?” It’s easy to look around us here in Vail and enjoy the beauty of these mountains and all the fun things at our disposal. But can majestic peaks really fulfill us? Can skiing or boarding our brains out honestly give us abundant life? Yes, they are fun; and yes, God expects us to enjoy His creation to the fullest. But is this all there is to life? Working hard and playing even harder? We have a Father who loves us and created us to be in relationship with Him. Sadly, some religious institutions tell us God is legalistic, a Deity who wants us to “behave”. They tell us to follow quaint formulas and rules to be acceptable, distorting the truth of God’s Word! Do you realize the Almighty’s joy is directly related to our joy, that we are His glory when we live life to the fullest? God is the God of Grace and mercy who hopes we will turn to Him and find His free gift of abundant life! The question is: how can we find joy stuck between a fallen world and religious legalism? How can we live free when humanity can be so horribly cruel to one another? Can we really find some hope of fulfillment through success, possessions, image, money or people? Does it work? Consider this:- Do your possessions, money, and personal success give you deep, abiding joy and peace?- Does religious legalism and “doing your duty” actually fill your heart or kill your joy?- Do you feel fully alive today? – Do you want to? God’s Word is clear: “Jesus said, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, streams of living water will flow from within him.” John 7:37-38″Jesus said, ‘I have come that they may have life, & have it to the fullest,” John 10:10.”It is for freedom that Christ set us free!” Galatians 5:1.As humans, our hearts long for true life, for something better than Planet Earth. Our souls yearn for someone greater than ourselves who can bring hope and renewal from our own wounds. That “Someone” is our loving Father who laughs, cries, grieves, and smiles with us. God gave us His only Son, Jesus Christ to show us the way back to real life a personal relationship with Him! Do you really want to be fully alive?- Admit I’m in need of a Savior. It takes real strength to confess your inmost struggles.- Agree: God is God and I am not.- Take a hard, brave look at Jesus Christ and discover the truth of who He is.- Accept God’s gift of Grace through Jesus Christ.- Come alive with His power, living each day fresh, new, forgiven, and with a sense of adventure!God’s path to life takes courage; it takes honesty and openness to step into His unknown territories where He is in control and we’re not. The Bible says, “The Lord longs to be gracious to you. He rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are those who wait on Him,” Isaiah 30:18. Seize the Day and grab hold of God’s outstretched hand! Let today be the day you come fully to life! Then watch God’s joy cover your life. You will know grace and truth and live it for all eternity!Gary Wingo leads Seekers Fellowship currently on a seasonal break.Vail, Colorado
