Howard Thurston, 1915-2007
Howard William Thurston, age 91 of Bond, passed away June 10, 2007 at Vail Valley Medical Center. He was born July 27, 1915 in Salina, Kan. to Phillip Sheridan and Bertha Kate (Clarkson) Thurston. He married Dorothy June Henry on Jan. 11, 1949 in Grand County. When Howard first arrived in Grand County he worked on many area ranches, and then later was employed in construction industry with Peter Kiewitt & Sons. He was a 50-year member of #9 Construction Union.Howard is survived by his wife June; two children, Robert P. Thurston and his wife Hildegard of Colorado Springs, and Dorothy A. Arnold and her husband Ronnie of Independence, Texas; a brother Harley Thurston; a sister Beulah Hoteling; five half-sisters Patty Wright, Bernitha Letch and her husband Albert, Rita Peterman and her husband Ron, Gladys Brockway and her husband John, and Alda Lawrence; a half-brother Jim Netherland; grandsons Kurtis Arnold and his wife Donna of Reno, Nev. and Shane Thurston of Colorado Springs; granddaughter Kristy Vellagas and her husband Joseph of Murrieta, Calif.; great-grandchildren Stormy, Gage, Sadie, Fisher, Matteson Ann, and Lucas.A memorial graveside service with inurnment will be 11 a.m. Saturday June 30, 2007 at Sheephorn Cemetery.Funeral services are entrusted to the care and direction of Foran-Schoenfeld Mortuary, 204 Byers Ave, Hot Sulphur Springs, CO 80451, (970) 725-3313.
