VAIL ” Dance enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity to experience one of the nation’s top performance ensembles Sunday afternoon, Aug. 12, as the 2007 Vail International Dance Festival brings Hubbard Street 2 to the Ford Amphitheater for a free family matinee.

Scheduled for noon, the free performance will bring down the curtain on the festival, following a 10-show, two-week run at both the Ford Amphitheater and Vilar Center for the Arts.

Based in Chicago, Hubbard Street 2 is a company of six dancers, between the ages of 17 and 25, who perform a repertoire of works by some of the nation’s most promising young choreographers. The group annually touches more than 35,000 people through performances in schools, community centers and theaters.

Since it’s inception in 1997, the company has become a respected training ground for young, professional dancers and choreographers, as well as a major component of parent company Hubbard Street Dance Company’s education and community programs and a resource for new dancers for Hubbard Street’s main company.

With the desire to expose the dancers and audiences to a wide variety of dance techniques, movement styles and artistic approaches, Hubbard Street 2 strives to assemble an eclectic body of work, with an emphasis on new creation. Their repertoire reflects influences from ballet to hip-hop to improvisation, while also featuring full company works and more intimate pieces.

Individual tickets for other 2007 Vail International Dance Festival are priced from $17 to $85, with special pricing for the Aug. 8 Christopher Wheeldon evening at the Vilar Center.

An array of ticket packages are also available, including the Center Stage Pass ($475), providing premium reserved seats for all festival performances, with the exception of Aug. 8, and the popular Performance Plus Pass ($75), which features discounted general admission lawn seating for all seven Dance Festival performances at the Ford Amphitheater and a $10 discount on a bottle of wine at each Amphitheater performance.

New for 2007 is the addition of a Student Performance Plus Pass ($50), available to all students, 18 years of age and under, which also provides general admission seating for all amphitheater shows.
