Hurt teen hiker requires rescue

HOLY CROSS WILDERNESS, Colorado ” A rescue operation was underway Thursday for a 14-year-old who hurt herself on a trail near Carter Lake in the Holy Cross Wilderness Area.

The search began after a 911 call made by one of the members of the girl’s hiking party.

A Flight for Life helicopter took off from Summit County was 3:25 p.m. and landed about half hour later within a mile and a half of the victim.

Volunteers from Western Eagle County Search and Rescue and the Vail Mountain Rescue Group were in the process transporting the girl to a helicopter. The extent of the victim’s injuries is unknown at this time.

The female was hiking with a group of eight to 10 other people. The group had been hiking in the area since Saturday.
